The basics

Presets, Slots
& AMP Modules

Before you export anything, it helps to know how M-Vave organizes your tones. These few ideas cover every M-Vave processor, from the pocket BlackBox to the Tank G and MK300.

Preset

a.k.a. a patch / a tone

A preset is one complete saved tone: amp, cab, effect modules and all their settings. On M-Vave, a preset is the single sound you save, export and share.

Preset Slots

how presets are numbered

Presets live in numbered slots you step through with the footswitches. The BlackBox, for example, holds 80 presets from P01 to P80, and you can reset or overwrite them.

IRs & AMP Modules

cab files and amp models

A preset can use an Impulse Response, a WAV cab file, and the editor also imports AMP module timbre data, the M-Vave amp models. Keep these files with the preset when you move it.

Editor Software

The free M-Vave editor for Windows and Mac connects over a USB cable to import and export presets.

Mobile App

Backup First

Before you start

What You Need To Export

Exporting presets from an M-Vave takes just a few things. Get these ready first and the how to below becomes a two minute job.

1

Your M-Vave device

A Tank G, MK300, BlackBox or another M-Vave multi effects processor. Every model with editor support can export presets.

2

The editor or app

The free M-Vave editor software for Windows and Mac, or the M-Vave mobile app. Download them only from the official M-Vave site.

3

A connection

A USB cable to your computer for the editor software, or Bluetooth to your phone for the app. Either one lets you move presets.

4

Latest firmware

Keep your device firmware up to date, and always back up presets, AMP models and IRs before you replace them or upgrade.

Download from the official M-Vave site only

Always get the M-Vave editor software, the app, firmware and manuals straight from M-Vave, on their Downloads page, never a third party mirror. Back up your presets, AMP models and IRs before you replace them or upgrade the firmware.

How To Export M-Vave Presets

The reliable route works on every M-Vave processor: the editor software over USB, or the app over Bluetooth. Both let you import and export presets as files. Here is the full process.

1

Install the editor or app

Download the M-Vave editor software for Windows or Mac, or the M-Vave app for your phone, from the official M-Vave Downloads page.

2

Connect your device

Connect over a USB cable for the editor software, or pair over Bluetooth for the app. Your presets load in, ready to manage.

3

Select the preset to export

Choose the preset slot you want to save. If you have just edited a tone, store it to that slot first so your work is captured.

4

Click Export and save the file

Use the Export option and save the preset file to a backup folder on your computer or phone. That file is your exported preset, ready to store, share or sell.

5

Keep your IRs and AMP data

If a preset uses a custom IR or an imported AMP module, save those files alongside it, so the tone stays complete when you move it.

How To Import M-Vave Presets

Bought a preset pack, or restoring a backup? Importing is the same idea in reverse: bring the file into the editor or app, drop it into a slot, and it writes to your device.

1

Connect the editor or app

Open the M-Vave editor software over USB, or the app over Bluetooth, the same way as when you export.

2

Click Import and pick the file

Use the Import option, browse to your preset file and open it. It loads into the editor, ready to place.

3

Choose a slot and write it

Select an empty preset slot for the new tone and confirm. The preset is written into that slot on your device, ready to play.

4

Import IRs and AMP modules

If the preset uses a custom cab or amp, import the matching IR file and AMP module data too, so the preset points at the right sounds.

Back up before you replace anything. Overwriting a slot, swapping AMP models or IRs, and firmware upgrades can all clear your work, so export your presets first. Note too that presets are model specific, so a Tank G preset will not load on an MK300 or BlackBox.

Save everything

Back Up Your Presets

M-Vave gives you a couple of solid ways to keep your tones safe. Pick whichever fits your setup, and always back up before you replace presets or upgrade.

Export every preset

In the editor or app, export your presets to a backup folder before any change. This is your safety net if a slot gets overwritten or the firmware resets.

Single presets

Export individual presets as files. Perfect for keeping, sharing or selling the exact tones you care about most, one clean file each.

Keep the extras

Save your custom IR WAV files and any imported AMP module data in the same folder, so a preset always has the sounds it needs.

M-Vave Export Tips

Back up before you replace

M-Vave warns you to back up before swapping presets, AMP models or IRs. Export everything first so nothing is lost.

Store before you switch

Save an edited tone to its slot before you move to another preset, or your changes are gone when you switch.

Pick the right connection

Use the editor over USB for bulk work on a computer, or the app over Bluetooth for quick edits and sharing from your phone.

Keep IRs and AMP data together

A preset relies on its IR and AMP module. When you share or move it, include the exact sounds it uses.
