The basics

Patches, IRs
& Sound Clones

Before you export anything, it helps to know how Hotone organizes your tones. These few ideas cover every Ampero device, from the Ampero Mini to the flagship Ampero II Stage.

Patch

a.k.a. a preset / a tone

A patch is one complete saved tone: amp, cab, effects and all its settings. On Hotone, a preset is called a patch, and it is the single sound you export and share.

Banks & Slots

how patches are numbered

Patches live in numbered slots that are grouped into banks. Each slot holds one patch, and the Ampero Editor shows them all in a list you can reorder.

IRs & Sound Clones

cab files and amp captures

A patch can use an Impulse Response (a WAV cab file) and, on Ampero II, a Sound Clone or NAM amp capture. Keep these files with the patch when you move it.

Good to know
Ampero Editor

The free Mac and Windows desktop app that connects over USB to import and export your patches as files.

.prst File

The file a patch exports as. A single patch or all patches both save as a .prst file you can back up or share.

Hotone Community

The official online library to download and share patches. Note: anything you upload is shared publicly.

What You Need To Export

Exporting presets from a Hotone takes just a few things. Get these ready first and the how to below becomes a two minute job.

1

Your Hotone device

Ampero, Ampero One, Ampero Mini, Ampero II Stomp or Ampero II Stage. Every model can export patches, the exact tool just depends on the unit.

2

Ampero Editor software

The free desktop editor for Mac and Windows, or the Ampero II app. Download it only from the official Hotone support page.

3

A USB cable

A data USB cable to connect your Ampero to your computer. The Ampero II Stage can also connect wirelessly through its app.

4

Matching firmware and editor

Use the editor version that matches your firmware. Always export all patches before you run a firmware update.

Download from the official Hotone site only

Always get the Ampero Editor, the Sound Clone app, firmware and user guides straight from Hotone, never a third party mirror. Match the editor to your firmware, and back up all patches before every update.

How To Export Hotone Patches

The most reliable route works on every Ampero: the Ampero Editor. It connects over USB and exports your patches as .prst files. Here is what it looks like in the app.

Export saves the selected patch, or all patches, as a .prst file you can back up or share.
1

Install the Ampero Editor

Download and install the Ampero Editor from the official Hotone support page. Use the editor version that matches your firmware.

2

Connect and open the editor

Connect your Ampero to your computer with a USB cable, power it on and open the editor. Your patches appear in the list on the left.

3

Select the patch to export

Click a patch in the left column to select it. To back up everything at once, choose the option to export all patches instead.

4

Export as a .prst file

Use Export, then save to a backup folder on your computer. A single patch or all patches both save as a .prst file. That file is your exported preset, ready to store, share or sell.

5

On Ampero II, export in bulk

The Ampero II Stage app can import and export preset files in bulk, and upload patches straight to the Hotone Community over its wireless connection.

How To Import Hotone Patches

Bought a patch pack, or restoring a backup? Importing is the same idea in reverse: bring the .prst file into the editor library, drop it into a slot, then write it to your device.

1

Connect and open the editor

Connect your Ampero over USB and open the Ampero Editor, the same way as when you export.

2

Bring the .prst file in

Drag the .prst file into the patch library on the left, or right click an empty slot and choose Import, then pick the file.

3

Choose a destination slot

Select the slot where the patch should land and confirm Import. The patch is written into that slot on your device.

4

Import the IR too

If the patch uses a custom cab, select the patch, click the Cab block, use Import IR File, pick a slot, then save the patch so it points at the right IR.

Match the editor to your firmware. Patches from earlier firmware are not directly compatible with newer firmware. Export with the earlier editor first, then import with the matching new editor so it converts your patches correctly. Note too that patches are model specific, so an Ampero patch will not load on an Ampero II.

Save everything

Back Up Your Patches

Hotone gives you three ways to keep your tones safe. Pick whichever fits your setup, and always back up before a firmware update.

To your computer

Open the Ampero Editor and export all patches as a .prst file into a backup folder on your Mac or PC. This is the safest full backup.

In bulk via the app

On the Ampero II Stage, the app can batch export your preset files, and even categorize and annotate them for you.

To Hotone Community

Upload patches to the Hotone Community from the unit or app. Great for backup and sharing, but uploads are public to the community.

Hotone Export Tips

Back up before every update

Export all your patches as a .prst file before installing new firmware, so nothing is ever lost in the change.

Match editor and firmware

Always use the editor version made for your firmware. A mismatch is the top reason patches will not load correctly.

Keep patches and IRs together

A patch relies on its IR and Sound Clone files. When you share or move a patch, include the files it uses.

Community uploads are public

The Hotone Community shares whatever you upload with everyone, so only upload patches you are happy to release.
