The basics

Rigs, Performances
& Profiles

Before you export anything, it helps to know how Kemper organizes your tones. These few ideas cover every Kemper Profiler, from the compact Player to the Profiler Stage.

Rig

a.k.a. a preset / a tone

A Rig is one complete saved tone: the amp Profile, cabinet, stomps and effects with all their settings. On Kemper, a preset is a Rig, and it exports as a .kipr file.

Performance

up to five Rigs

A Performance holds up to five Rigs in slots, built for playing live so the right tones are one footswitch away. It exports as a .kipf file through Rig Manager.

Profiles & Presets

amp captures and blocks

A Profile is the captured amp and cab at the heart of a Rig. A preset is a single block, like one delay or reverb. Both live inside your Rigs.

Good to know
Rig Manager

The free Mac, Windows and iOS app that manages your whole library by simple drag and drop.

.kipr / .kipf Files

Rigs export as .kipr files and Performances export as .kipf files, ready to back up or share.

USB Stick

Export Rigs and presets straight from the Profiler. Note: Performances move only through Rig Manager.

Before you start

What You Need To Export

Exporting presets from a Kemper takes just a few things. Get these ready first and the how to below becomes a two minute job.

1

Your Kemper Profiler

Profiler Head, Rack, Stage, Player or a powered version. Every model can export Rigs, the exact route just depends on the unit.

2

Rig Manager software

The free Kemper app for Mac, Windows and iOS. Download it only from the official Kemper site, then connect your Profiler.

3

A connection

A USB cable from your Profiler to your computer, or a USB stick in the Profiler for exporting Rigs on the unit itself.

4

Matching Kemper OS

When moving tones between two Profilers, run the same Kemper OS on both so every feature in the Rig is supported.

Download from the official Kemper site only

Always get Rig Manager, Kemper OS updates and user manuals straight from Kemper, never a third party mirror. Back up your library before every operating system update, and let Rig Manager finish before you disconnect.

How To Export Kemper Rigs

The most reliable route works on every Kemper: Rig Manager. It connects over USB and exports your Rigs and Performances as files. Here is what it looks like in the app.

1

Install Rig Manager

Download and install Rig Manager from the official Kemper site, on your Mac, Windows PC or iPad.

2

Connect and open the app

Connect your Profiler with a USB cable and open Rig Manager. Your device appears in the sidebar as My Profiler.

3

Select a Rig or Performance

Under My Profiler, click the Rig or Performance you want. Shift click to select several at once.

4

Export the files

Right click and choose Export, or simply drag the selection onto your desktop. Rigs save as .kipr and Performances as .kipf. Those files are your exported presets.

5

On the unit, use a USB stick

Insert a USB stick, go to External Storage, then Import / Export and choose Export Rigs in View. Your Rigs land in the Shared folder. Note that Performances export only through Rig Manager.

How To Import Kemper Rigs

Bought a Rig pack, or restoring a backup? Importing is the same idea in reverse: bring the file into the right Local Library, then send it to your Profiler and Store it.

1

Open the matching Local Library

The import function is context sensitive. Click Rigs in Local Library for .kipr files, or Performances for .kipf files, first.

2

Drag the file in

Drag the .kipr or .kipf file onto Rig Manager, or use File then Import and pick the file from your computer.

3

Send it to your Profiler

Drag the Rig from Local Library onto My Profiler, or double click to try it instantly. For a Performance, drop it into a Performance slot.

4

Store it on the unit

Press Store on the Profiler, or use Store in Rig Manager, so the Rig or Performance is saved permanently to a slot.

Performances move only through Rig Manager. Rigs and presets can travel on a USB stick, but a Performance cannot. Import it into the Performance Local Library, then send it to a slot. Also run the same Kemper OS on both Profilers so every feature loads correctly.

Save everything

Back Up Your Rigs

Kemper gives you three ways to keep your tones safe. Pick whichever fits your setup, and always back up before an operating system update.

To Rig Manager

Drag your Rigs and Performances into Local Library folders on your computer, or use the backup option to archive your whole library safely.

To a USB stick

On the Profiler itself, run a full Backup to a USB stick. It saves everything into the Backups folder, ready to restore later.

As single files

Export individual Rigs as .kipr and Performances as .kipf, then email or store the exact tones you care about most.

The Player has banks of five slots, not Performances. Export Rigs to the Pool, then to a USB stick or Rig Manager.

Powered profilers

PowerHead & PowerRack

USBUSB Stick

Identical export routes to the Head and Rack. The built in power amp does not change how Rigs are exported.

A Profile is your captured amp and cab. It travels inside a Rig, so export the Rig to move the Profile with it.

Kemper Export Tips

Back up before every update

Run a full backup to a USB stick or Rig Manager before installing a new Kemper OS, so nothing is ever lost.

Match the OS on both ends

When moving Rigs to another Profiler, run the same Kemper OS so every effect and feature loads as intended.

Use Rig Manager for Performances

Rigs and presets can travel on a USB stick, but Performances only export and import through Rig Manager.

Export again after editing

Rig Manager keeps its own copy when you import. If you edit a Rig, export it once more to save the updated .kipr file.
