The basics

Patches, Pro Scenes
& QuickTone

Before you export anything, it helps to know how NUX organizes your tones. These few ideas cover every NUX device, from the compact MG300 to the flagship MG400 and Trident.

Patch

a.k.a. a preset / a tone

A patch is one complete saved tone: amp, cab, effect blocks and all their settings. On NUX, a preset is called a patch, and it is the single sound you save, export and share.

Pro Scenes & Banks

how patches are organized

Patches sit in banks you step through with the footswitches. Pro Scene Selection lets one patch hold several model and setting variations, switched live on stage.

IRs & NAM

cab files and amp captures

A patch can use an Impulse Response, a WAV cab file, loaded into the cabinet block. On the MG400 the NAM Loader also imports community NAM amp captures. Keep these files with the patch.

QuickTone Editor

The free desktop software that connects over USB to save, import and export your patches and load IRs.

USB Type C

NUX devices connect over USB Type C, and double as an audio interface for recording and reamping.

GEN2 Match

GEN2 firmware works only with the GEN2 QuickTone Editor, so always match the editor to your firmware.

What You Need To Export

Exporting presets from a NUX takes just a few things. Get these ready first and the how to below becomes a two minute job.

1

Your NUX device

An MG30, MG300, MG300 MKII, MG400, Trident or Cerberus. Every model with QuickTone support can export patches over USB.

2

The QuickTone Editor

The free QuickTone Editor for your device, in the right version for your firmware. Download it only from the official NUX site.

3

A USB cable

The included USB Type C cable to connect your NUX device to your computer for the QuickTone Editor.

4

Matching firmware

Use the editor version that matches your firmware, and always back up all patches before a firmware update, because updates reset your user presets.

Download from the official NUX site only

Always get the QuickTone Editor, firmware and manuals straight from NUX, in the Support section of your product page, never a third party mirror. Match the editor to your firmware, and back up all patches before every update.

How To Export NUX Patches

The reliable route works on every NUX device: the QuickTone Editor. It connects over USB, and its Import and Export buttons on the top toolbar move your patches in and out as files. Here is the full process.

1

Install the QuickTone Editor

Download the QuickTone Editor for your device from the official NUX product page, then install it. Use the version that matches your firmware, GEN2 firmware needs the GEN2 editor.

2

Connect and open QuickTone

Connect your NUX device with the USB Type C cable, power it on and open the QuickTone Editor. Your patches load into the editor.

3

Save your tone first

If you have just dialled in a tone on the device, press Save before switching patches, so your work is stored and ready to export.

4

Select the patch and export

Choose the patch you want, then click the Export button on the top toolbar and save the preset file to a backup folder on your computer. That file is your exported preset, ready to store, share or sell.

5

Keep your IRs and NAM files

If a patch uses a custom IR or, on the MG400, a NAM capture, save those files alongside the preset so the tone stays complete when you move it.

How To Import NUX Patches

Bought a patch pack, or restoring a backup? Importing is the same idea in reverse: bring the file into QuickTone, assign it a bank, and it writes to your device.

1

Connect and open QuickTone

Connect your NUX device over USB Type C and open the QuickTone Editor, the same way as when you export.

2

Click Import and pick the file

Click the Import button on the top toolbar, browse to your preset file and click Open.

3

Assign a bank

Choose a bank for the new patch, select it and hit Import to confirm. A message shows once the patch has loaded onto your device.

4

Load a custom IR

To add your own cab, right click the cabinet block, choose User, click the cabinet space, press Import and pick your IR WAV file.

Back up before every firmware update. Updating the firmware resets all user settings, so export your patches first, then reload them afterward. Note too that some older patches may not be fully compatible with new firmware, and patches are model specific, so an MG30 patch will not load on an MG400.

Back Up Your Patches

NUX gives you a couple of solid ways to keep your tones safe. Pick whichever fits your setup, and always back up before a firmware update.

Export every patch

In QuickTone, export your patches to a backup folder on your computer before any update. This is your safety net if the firmware resets the device.

Single presets

Export individual patches as files. Perfect for keeping, sharing or selling the exact tones you care about most, one clean file each.

Keep the extras

Save your custom IR WAV files and any NAM captures in the same folder, so a patch always has the sounds it needs.

NUX Export Tips

Back up before every update

A firmware update resets your user presets. Export all your patches in QuickTone before you update, then reload them after.

Match GEN2 editor and firmware

GEN2 firmware only works with the GEN2 QuickTone Editor. Keep them on the same version to avoid patches that will not load.

Save before you switch

Always press Save after crafting a tone, before you change patches, or your edits are lost when you move on.

Keep IRs and captures together

A patch relies on its IR and NAM files. When you share or move it, include the exact sounds it uses.
