The basics

Presets, Banks
& Rigs

Before you export anything, it helps to know how Overloud organizes your tones inside THU. These few ideas cover the whole THU family, on desktop, standalone and mobile.

Preset

a.k.a. a tone / a patch

A preset is one complete saved tone: amp, cab, effects and all their settings, plus any Scenes inside it. In THU a single preset exports as an OVP file.

Preset Bank

a group of presets

A preset bank is a collection of presets grouped together. A whole bank exports as an OVB file, which is the easy way to move or share many tones at once.

Rigs & IRs

captured amps and cabs

A preset can use a captured Rig from a Rig Library and an IR, a WAV cab file, in the cabinet or SuperCabinet. Keep these with the preset when you move it.

Good to know
OVP File

A single preset file. It lives inside a preset bank and holds one complete THU tone.

OVB File

A preset bank file that contains many presets, perfect for sharing or selling a whole pack in one file.

presets.db Library

The database that holds every preset in THU. Copy it to back up or move your entire collection at once.

How To Export Overloud THU Presets

THU makes this simple. From the preset browser you can export a single preset as an OVP file, or a whole bank as an OVB file. Here is the full process.

1

Open THU and your preset

Launch THU as a plugin in your DAW or as the standalone app, and open the preset browser. Dial in and save the tone you want to export.

2

Choose a preset or a bank

Decide whether you are exporting one preset, which becomes an OVP file, or a whole bank of presets, which becomes an OVB file.

3

Export the preset as OVP

Select the preset and use the export command to save it as an OVP file to your backup folder. That single file is your exported preset, ready to store, share or sell.

4

Or export the whole bank as OVB

To send many tones at once, export the bank as an OVB file. One OVB carries a full pack of presets, ideal for a bundle.

5

Keep the rigs and IRs

If a preset uses a captured Rig or a custom IR, note the Rig Library it needs and save any custom IR file alongside the preset, so the tone stays complete.

How To Import Overloud THU Presets

Bought a preset pack, or restoring a backup? Importing into THU is as easy as a drag and drop. Bring the file into the banks window and it loads straight in.

1

Unzip the pack if needed

If your download is a zip file, decompress it first. Inside you will find an OVP preset file or an OVB bank file.

2

Open THU

Launch THU as a plugin or standalone and open the banks window, where all your preset banks are shown.

3

Drag and drop the file

Drag the OVB bank or OVP preset onto the banks window. THU loads it in, and the new presets appear ready to play.

4

Add the Rig Library and IRs

If a preset needs a captured rig, drag the Rig Library file into the THU window and authorize it. Load any custom IR into the cabinet so the preset points at the right sound.

A preset needs the sounds it references. If a THU preset uses a captured rig from a Rig Library you do not own, or a custom IR you are missing, it will not sound right until you add them. When you share or sell a preset, always say which Rig Library and IRs it needs.

Save everything

Back Up Your Presets

Overloud gives you two clean ways to keep your THU tones safe. Pick whichever fits, and always back up before a reinstall or a move to a new machine.

Export banks one by one

Export each bank you care about as an OVB file into a backup folder. This is the tidy way to keep and share specific sets of presets.

Back up the whole library

Open the menu, hold Option on Mac or Alt on Windows, choose Reveal user data files, and copy the presets.db file. It holds every preset at once.

Move to a new computer

Install THU on the new machine, then place your saved presets.db in the same user data folder. All your presets appear exactly as before.

Overloud Export Tips

Back up presets.db before a reinstall

Before you reinstall THU or switch computers, copy your presets.db so your whole library comes back in one step.

Use OVB for whole packs

Selling or sharing a set of tones? Export the bank as one OVB file so the buyer loads everything with a single drag and drop.

List the rigs a preset needs

If a preset is built on a captured Rig Library, tell the buyer which one, so they can play it exactly as you made it.

Keep IRs with the preset

A preset relies on its custom IR. When you share or move it, include the IR WAV file so the cabinet sounds right.

Overloud Export FAQ

Quick answers about THU presets, banks and backups

A preset is one complete THU tone. A preset bank is a group of presets. A single preset exports as an OVP file, and a whole bank exports as an OVB file.

An OVP file is a single preset. An OVB file is a preset bank that holds many presets, so use OVB when you want to move or sell a full pack at once.

Open the menu, hold Option on Mac or Alt on Windows, choose Reveal user data files, and copy the presets.db file. It contains every preset in THU.

Open THU, then drag and drop the OVB bank or OVP preset onto the banks window. The presets load straight in, ready to play.

No. Exporting OVP and OVB files works fully offline. You only need internet to download THU, updates and Rig Libraries, and to authorize your products.

It probably uses a captured Rig Library or a custom IR you do not have yet. Add and authorize the Rig Library, and load the IR it needs, then it will play correctly.
